The controversy occurred at an event in Orange County at the Montgomery ShopRite on Wednesday, March 5, where Hogan was holding a meet-and-greet to promote his "Real American Beer."
Many fans raced to the supermarket for a chance to meet their hero, with many waiting for hours in line. However, after Hogan left the event, several disappointed people took to social media to vent about their missed opportunity:
"What a day! Stand in line for 4 hours at Shop Rite in Montgomery to see Hulk Hogan and with only about 20 people left in line, he walks out!!!!" wrote one fan, who added, "What a way to do a promotion!!!"
Another accused Hogan of not fulfilling his announced commitments: "He did not follow through with commitments for meet and greet at ShopRite Montgomery Ny. Was supposed to see 250, cut it to 200. I was 100, he left the building in the middle of meet and greet."
According to another visitor, Hogan arrived late to the event.
"My kids wanted to see Hulk Hogan, a wrestler they watched and enjoyed since they were kids. Montgomery ShopRite hosted him while he hawked beer. Well, it was mobbed. All the aisles were filled with fans. Hulk arrived an hour and a half late. Unfortunately, we had decided to to leave when they cut who could get to see him," she wrote on Facebook.
It turns out that this may not have been the first time Hogan left a meet-and-greet early, as one former fan posted a rant on TikTok shortly before the ShopRite event in which he recounted a time he stood in line for seven hours to meet the wrestler:
"Don't meet your heroes...I'm out there for seven hours, I'm willing to even pay to meet Hulk Hogan, this is a guy that I've been waiting to meet...He signs a bunch of beers, will not sign anything else but a beer, there's kids there...I've seen a kid there with a little poster he printed out on his computer, Hogan wouldn't sign it," the fan said.
"He didn't care about anybody, two and a half hours late...Hulk Hogan, you're a jerk," the TikTokker added.
Despite the broken hearts left in the aftermath of the ShopRite event, it does seem some were lucky enough to meet Hogan:
